Triathlon 101 Class

Have you ever wanted to do a triathlon? Don’t know where to start?

Taking the Tri 101 class will provide beginners with the instruction and training that they need to complete their first triathlon!

First class meeting is Thursday, April 10, 2014

Preliminary Schedule

New Castle Spring 2014

Classes will be on Thursdays from 6:30-8:00 at Henry County YMCA

Please note the workout/dress for each class and be prepared!

April 10 – 6:30pm-8:30pm: Classroom at HCYMCA — Introduction, orientation, training logs, swimming assessment. Dress: swimming

April 24 – 6:30pm-8:00pm: Swimming drills. Dress: swimming

May 8 – 6:30pm-8:00pm: Running assessment, guest speaker. Dress: Running

May 10 – 6:00am-12:00pm: Volunteer at Muncie May Triathlon. Dress: Warm!

May 24 – 8:00am-10:00am: Biking assessment, general maintenance, group ride. Summit Lake State Park (fee not included). Dress: Bike

May 31 (Richmond) or June 7 (Muncie) – 6:00am-12:00pm: Volunteer at one of these triathlons if you were unable to in May. Dress: Comfortable!

June 5 – 6:30pm-8:00pm: Yoga and stretching. Dress: comfortable clothing

June 19 – 6:30pm-8:00pm: Nutrition and weight training. Dress: Lifting

June 28 – 8:00am-9:00am: Group run. Dress: Run

July 12 – 8:00am-10:00am: Race prep, course preview. Summit Lake State Park (fee not included). Dress: All race day gear!

July 17 – 6:30pm-8:00pm: Pre race instructions, gear overview, race day prep, question and answer session. Dress: Casual

July 26 – Graduation! Summit Lake Optimist Triathlon

Class Description

Instruction will include: learn to swim freestyle, open water swimming, proper running and biking form, yoga, basic equipment needed for your first triathlon, transitions, clothing, nutrition, training plans, race day planning, volunteering, bike maintenance and proper bike fit.

The first class will be 2 hours and include orientation and a swim clinic. Each class after that will be specifically designed to meet the class needs and an agreed schedule including Thursday nights and Saturday mornings for approx. 2 hours. All classes will be part instruction and part training.

Included in the fee is classroom & training instruction. 1 training log. 10% off the entry fee to the Summit Lake Sprint Triathlon or another Muncie Multi-Sport race of your choice.
